Wed, August 9th, 2006 11:29 Pacific Final Day - Great Season
Sorry for the lateness of this update, needless to say we have been very busy since returning home from St. Louis. Sunday morning, everyone was up and about early, as our game started at 9 am. It was going to be a long, hot day and we looked forward to another game vs. HART. We have played them several times in the past and it has always been an exciting game. We won the coin toss, so we were home team. HART jumped out to a one run lead early in the game. At one point, Sarah was hit by a line drive in the shin and we weren't sure if she would be able to stay in. But she put on a knee pad and stayed in, icing her shin between innings. She pitched a very good game in spite of the large, painful bruise on her leg. Although BV had a few opportunities to try and bring a runner across the plate, they were unsuccessful and they lost 1-0. That meant that we would have to win 3 straight games to win the Championship. But one game at a time, first we had to play So. Huntington Beach again. The girls had about 20 minutes between games, in which they had to change fields and try to choke down a bite to eat. We won the coin toss again. Keana was on the mound. SHB was getting some really good hits and scored a run in the first inning. BV came back and scored 2 in their half. It looked to be a great game. The next inning, Keana was nearly hit in the head by a line drive. She blocked it with her hand, unfortunately, not her glove hand. She had some broken blood vessels in her hand and the heel of her hand was pretty bruised. The trainer checked her out and recommended she not pitch. So, Sarah was back in the game again, after just pitching a long and tedious game. She did a fine job, although SHB was able to get 3 runs this inning. Finally, it was BV's turn again. We came back with 1 run. It was 4 - 3 after the second inning. The next inning was scoreless for both sides. The SHB bats came alive again in the 4th, scoring 3 more runs. Bv was only able to score 1 run that inning. BV held SHB to no runs the next inning and came back to score two more runs in the 5th. The score was 7 to 6 with two more opportunities for BV to tie or go ahead. I believe this is when Keana came back into the game (sorry I don't have the scorebook to check). SHB was unable to score any more runs. BV scored no runs in the 6th, but still had one more opportunity. In the 7th, Brianna started off the inning with a walk, tying run on 1st. Karla laid down a beautiful bunt that moved Brianna to 2nd. Then Haydn lined one to right field, moving Brianna to 3rd, but being thrown out at 1st by the right fielder (just barely). Brianna did not have an opportunity to go home on that play. Two outs, runner at 3rd. Hannah came to the plate. She battled her way through the at bat, but in the end, she was out. The tying run was still at 3rd. Our comeback streak had ended. In the past, any time we had been down in the final innings of a game, we were somehow able to score the necessary runs and usually a few extra ones, to win the game. It was not to be for this game. It was a very well played and well coached game on both sides and SHB is a great ball club. We had enjoyed all of our games against them. After the congratulations to the other team, there were, of course, a few tears (not just from the girls, either). The team met in the grass well beyond left field where Mary Lou and the other coaches told them how very proud they were of them. The host league handed out the plaque to Mary Lou and told everyone how much they always enjoy having Bonita Valley come to their tournament. The picture was taken and everyone headed back to the hotel. Some of the girls jumped into the pool with their uniforms on (a BV tradition?) and others just swam. This time, there was no time limit. A barbeque was organized and we had steak, chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, pretty much anything you could cook on a barbeque. It was very relaxing. Some of the girls rounded up a basketball and were playing on the basketball court. We left the next morning for the airport. Our flight ended up delayed about 1 hour. They held our connecting flight in Phoenix for 1/2 hour and we finally made it in to San Diego about 6. Everyone made it home safely. The entire team and their parents wish to congratulate the 12U team on their Championship in Midland! We are so proud. Everyone was always in my room trying to keep track of how you guys were doing, we even "watched" you guys after we were all done. Let's keep the traditions going for next year. Bye for now! The BV 10U team is traveling home right now and we'll get another update shortly. Congratulations 10U on a great season!!! Saturday, August 5th, 2006 9:58pm CENTRAL TIME (+2 hrs) We need to win two straight
The girls were able to sleep in this morning as our game wasn't until 1:00. We lost the toss so we were visitors. We got out 1,2,3 in the first inning. Castro Valley's pitcher was pretty good, but we knew we would catch up with her quickly. CV scored one in the first inning. They thought they were in a great position until..... BV strikes in the 2nd with 8 runs! We had great base running, great hits, etc. (I can't do the nitty gritty details as I don't have the score book any more, sorry). But it was fun. We knocked out the first pitcher in the middle of the second inning. Then we scored a few more runs on the second one. They were finally able to get us out and it was 8-1 BV! The next few innings were uneventful for CV, but we had hits and base running, but were unable to get the runs across until the 6th inning when we scored one more. Then CV struck for 3 in the 7th inning. They thought they had a chance, but BV quickly dashed their hopes! So we head to the final for the winner's bracket. The winner of that game goes to the Championship. Santee lost tonight vs. So Huntington Beach. Rancho Bernardo won tonight. RB plays So. Huntington tomorrow morning. The winner of that game will play the loser of our game at 11 tomorrow. The championship game is at 1:00 with the "if" game at 3. After the game today, the girls came back and swam a little while. Then, the whole team and all the parents went to Dave and Busters for some good food and games. The girls had a blast in the arcade and came back with all sorts of treasures. Now off to bed so they can regenerate for the big day tomorrow. Hope you will all be there with us in spirit. We will definitely be on board for all our games, and will keep you updated on the status of the loser's bracket final as well. Oh, and don't miss us on Channel 10 news at 11 tonight (saturday). They will be airing a story about the team. Hope someone tapes it for us!! To the 12's, keep your chin up, you guys are the best and we know you can come back.. Remember, it's not over til the Fat lady sings!!! Go get 'em tomorrow. Friday, August 4th, 2006 11:28pm CENTRAL TIME (+2 hrs) Almost there!
Another exciting game for BV! SHB (South Huntington Beach) got one run in the very first inning. That was to be all they got for the night. BV came back in the first with Dylan on second, and Skania comes to the plate. She had a count of one ball and one strike and Coach Lance asked her to hit and run. Dylan takes off with the pitch and Skania ropes one over the left center field fence - its a TWO RUN HOMER!!! The crowd went wild! Nobody scored the next inning. BV got one more in the 3rd and held SHB the rest of the game. Haydn hit two triples down the right field line, and almost scored one more run, but the shortstop made a terrific play and a great throw and was able to get her out. Sarah started pitching the game and Keana came in for the last three outs. After the game, the girls went over to watch the PQ vs. Santee game. There were 3 homeruns in that game, ending with Santee over PQ 6 to 5. Our next game is Saturday at 1 vs. Castro Valley Synergy. The tape of our interview with Channel 10 has been fedexed back to San Diego and may be on the news tomorrow. We will let you know as soon as we can when the interview will air. Bye for now, check out our game tomorrow. Friday, August 4th, 2006 3:11pm CENTRAL TIME (+2 hrs) 10's Advance Again!
The girls played a great game this morning, coming out on top of Rancho Bernardo with some good hitting, good baserunning and a little bit of small ball! Bunts were executed in a timely manner and they showed their prowess on the bases by not getting themselves picked off on the "trick" plays. RB had a good pitcher (some of us remember her from the 8U team last year) and they had some good hits. Some of the highlites from our game: Lauren hit a double down the left field line, later scoring on Karla's single to right, which she managed to beat out the throw to first! Dylan, Kim and Briana, all had at least one single. Karla had a beautiful bunt that was misthrown to first, two runs scored and Karla ended up on 3rd. Carlee also had a beautiful hit to right, scoring a run, and she almost beat the throw to first. Karla was the player of choice for the other team to hit to, fielding 10 out of 22 balls. Way to go Karla. During the game, one of our fans, a photographer for Channel 10 in San Diego, filmed the girls and interviewed some of the parents, Gianni (the live update operator) and Mary Lou. Hopefully, the girls will make the news when we get back home. Rett is here on vacation from San Diego and Laura let him know we were playing. Hopefully, he will make it to our game tonight. After the game, the team went to Home Town Buffet for lunch, then back to the hotel for a rest until we have to go to the fields at 6:15. We hope you are able to watch our live updates. We'll update the blog tonight. Thursday, August 3rd, 2006 4:30pm CENTRAL TIME (+2 hrs) Bonita Valley 10's Win 1st Bracket Game
Last night, the girls went to visit the St. Louis Arch. At the arch, we all went up into the arch, riding in a very small egg-like capsule that only sat 5 people, 630 feet into the air. There were some very small windows to look out and lots of people up there. We took pictures and then rode back down. We also went on a river boat ride on the Muddy Mississippi River. It was fun and we learned lots of interesting facts about the river and St. Louis history. Then, off to the spaghetti factory for dinner. When we got back to the hotel, the girls swam a little and then back to their rooms. This morning we got the wonderful news that Soida and Kiko's baby had been born. Sabian Francisco Palacios joined their family at 3 am. We were very happy that everyone was doing fine. We got to the fields around 10:30. Our game was against a team from St. Louis, Esprit. Of course, our game was delayed as the game before us went late. We were visitors so we got to bat first. We started off a little slow, with only 3 runs in the first inning, although all the hits were very hard. Sarah was on the mound and the first girl got a solid base hit up the middle. The next girl rolled one to Lauren and the next two struck out. The score after the first inning was only 3 - 0. The next two innings were relatively uneventful, with BV scoring no runs and the other team getting out 1,2,3. Hannah was the second batter in the 4th inning and ripped a homerun over the centerfield fence. It was amazing! After that, the girls hit the ball all over the place, scoring 5 runs that inning. We sent 10 batters to the plate. Esprit was only able to get one single that inning and the runner did not advance past 1st. Score at the end of 4 8 - 0. Next inning, the girls were on fire. They sent 13 batters to the plate, and we scored 8 runs. Esprit was out in their half, 1,2,3. The final score was 16-0. Our next game is Friday at 10:45 am. vs. Rancho Bernardo. Our next game when we win, will be at 7:15 pm. This evening, we are hanging out at the hotel and having burritos and chimichangas for dinner. Thanks for all your support and for watching our games on the live update!! 103 People watched your game versus Esprit -- Sam! Thursday, August 3rd, 2006 9:27am CENTRAL TIME (+2 hrs) New Baby
Our biggest news this morning is the following: Sabian Francisco Palacios was born this morning at 3 am. He was 6 pounds, 12 ounces and 19 1/2 inches long. Soida and the baby are doing fine. Kiko and the girls are obviously very excited!! Congratulations to the entire Palacios family. Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006 11:23am CENTRAL TIME (+2 hrs) BV Finishes Pool Play
Last night, we took the girls down to Old St. Charles (sort of like our Old Town). Most of the shops were closed, but we did find a lovely candy and ice cream shop. Very refreshing. It was a great place, with old brick buildings and even the roads were made from bricks. We went across the street and walked along the "Mighty Missouri" river. Coach Lance and Coach Juan taught the girls how to skip rocks and Karla, Lauren and Gianni each won one of the many rock skipping contests. Mrs. Teller displayed one of her many talents, dazzling us with a whopping 4 cartwheels in a row. Then, it was Coach Lance's turn. Although he did quite nicely, he was no match for Mrs. Teller. (Although he doesn't agree and might request a rematch.) It was a very relaxing time for the girls, but we did have to rush back to the hotel to get the girls in their rooms by 9:00, by order of Coach Mary Lou! (although she was with us, we didn't want to tempt the wrath!) The girls were up early this morning, arriving at the fields by 8:00 am. It was already about 90 degrees. We started the game on time, at 9:00. We won the toss so we were home team. Keana was on the mound. Keana struck out the first girl. The second girl got on base with a little hit to 2nd. The third one popped up to Kim at catcher. The fourth girl hit to second and Karla threw her out. BV's turn! In the first inning, BV sent 15 batters to the plate, scoring a total of 10 runs. Everyone hit the ball hard! The next inning, Woodland flew out to first and the next two girls struck out. Our turn again. The second inning, BV sent 9 girls to the plate and we scored 5 runs. Again, all the girls hit the ball hard. Sarah came in to pitch the third inning. She threw a total of 6 pitches and the side was out. GAME OVER! BV wins 15-0 Elijah went with CJ and Laura to draw for the brackets. He picked a good one and we play at 12:30 tomorrow. We are not sure at this time who our opponent will be. For the rest of the afternoon, the girls are going to the Arch and on a river boat ride. I am sure they will also swim later. It is supposed to cool down quite a bit tomorrow, but we do have a slight chance of thunderstorms. Hopefully, no rain will happen during our game. That's it for now! Tuesday, August 1st, 2006 4:35pm CENTRAL TIME (+2 hrs) Lets Play Some Ball!
Since we had a little time before we had to be at the field, the girls had time to sleep in a little and have a good breakfast. We headed out to the fields at 10:30 so the girls could sign in and have their id cards checked. They held up each girls’ card in front of their face to make sure it was truly them. No one failed this test! Then we watched part of another game until it was time to warm up. (As if we weren’t warm enough already!) The game before us went a little over time, so we were about ½ hour behind schedule. The girls won the toss and took home team. Sarah was on the mound and promptly struck out the first 3 batters. Now it was BV TIME!!! The other little pitcher (and I do mean little, the whole team was little) walked the first 3 batters. Then Skania ripped a double to left scoring 2 runners. Then Kimberly ripped another double to left scoring Skania from 3rd. Alex was hit by a pitch. Karla hit the ball to short who tagged out Kim going to 3rd. Brianna was hit by a pitch. Haydn then hit to the shortstop who was able to tag Karla out on her way to 3rd. Hannah then ripped a double to left scoring two more runs. Dylan then walked (again) and Lauren was thrown out at 1st. At the end of the first inning the score was 7 – 0. Sarah then struck out two of the next 3 batters with the other one being thrown out at 1st. BV time Again! Skania was first up and sent another double to left field. Kimberly then walked putting two on base for Alex. Alex hit a single up the middle scoring two runs. Carlee then got up and hit an infield single down the 3rd base line. Next up was Brianna who walked. Then Haydn hits a single up the middle, scoring Alex from 3rd. Hannah then walked and Caroyln hit a ball to the shortstop, beating out the throw to first, and hitting the runner in from 3rd. Lauren then walked bringing in yet another run. Skania (up for the 2nd time this inning) also walked, bring in the runner from 3rd. Suddenly, the heat must have affected the girls as Kim and Carlee were called out for leaving the base early. Alex was tagged out at 2nd when Carlee hit the ball up the middle while batting left handed for the first time in her life. The score was now 17-0! Keana then came in to throw a few pitches since she hasn’t pitched in a game since Murrieta. She struck out two, and walked one, who was then thrown out at 2nd with a beautiful throw by Brianna. GAME OVER! The girls then exchanged gifts with the other team, a Nationals tradition. Then back to the hotel for a swim and spaghetti dinner! In bed by 9 tonight as we have an early game tomorrow (9 am). Hope you will all be able to watch the live update while you have breakfast tomorrow as we will be on at 7 your time. Monday, July 31st, 2006 10:35pm CENTRAL TIME (+2 hrs) Settling in time
Ok, the coahes and Mary Lou have gone to the draw to see if we get to play tonight. The parade of teams is at 4:30 and opening ceremonies is at 5:00 (and of course, the pin exchange afterward). Some of the girls went to watch the St Louis Rams practice and were filmed by the tv crews so we will see if they make the local news! PQ and a team from Hollister are also staying here. Everyone is realy friendly. I'll let you know what else is happening as soon as Mary Lou gets back! The girls drew into a pool with the following three teams: Woodland (Northern CA), Windstar (Minnesota) and another team from Texas. Our first game is Tuesday at 12:30 vs. Windstar. We are meeting at 2:00 p.m. to go to the fields for opening ceremonies. The girls will have a short practice after opening ceremonies. It was hot and muggy at the fields, especially with. 49 teams all in attendance. We arrived around 2:30 and the girls exchanged pins. They also sang a wonderful karaoke rendition of "We are Family". I will try to get that on the website! After the parade of teams the girls gathered for a short practice in the park. Then dinner, showers and off to bed! Back to the fields tomorrow at10:30 to sign in and warm up for their first game. |
